The Story of Omneky: Building the Future of AI-Driven Advertising

Sometimes the most compelling startup stories begin generations before the company’s founding. In a recent episode of Category Visionaries, Hikari Senju shared how his grandfather’s work at IBM headquarters in Westchester shaped his perspective on technological innovation.

“Every time spending time with grandfather was all about Moore’s law. Innovate or die,” Hikari recalls. “The world changes every six months, and you’re always in the sprint for building the next product, even with the assumption that the product will go out of date in a year.”

This early exposure to rapid technological evolution would later inform Omneky’s approach to building in the AI space. But first, Hikari’s path would take him through Harvard and MIT, where a pivotal moment occurred in an early machine learning class.

“I saw some of the early generative models where basically you could have these massive neural nets and kind of hallucinate,” Hikari explains. With an artist father, this intersection of technology and creativity sparked a vision. “Combining that technological fascination and obsession growing up with the application in disrupting and kind of being an AI artist and AI can be creative was the most exciting and thrilling thing for me.”

Before founding Omneky, Hikari built and sold an ed-tech company that offered early insights into personalized content delivery. “It was actually a chat interface where it would connect students with tutors and help answer questions regarding their math homework,” he shares. This experience revealed a fundamental truth that would later shape Omneky’s approach: “In many ways, advertising is education at scale.”

The leap to founding Omneky came from recognizing a critical market need. “Advertisers have this insatiable desire in appetite for content, tell better personalized stories regarding all the different SKUs that an advertiser may have, and also regarding all the different audiences they may be targeting and across all the different platforms.”

Starting in 2018, well before the current AI boom, Omneky began building infrastructure to “generate personalized experiences at scale.” The company took an iterative approach to technology adoption, starting with basic tools and evolving alongside AI capabilities. “Initially when we launched the product, it was just GPT-1 and stock images,” Hikari notes, describing their progression through various AI models to their current stack of fine-tuned stable diffusion models.

This methodical approach helped establish Omneky as a serious player in the space before generative AI entered mainstream consciousness. They focused on building sustainable infrastructure rather than chasing hype, achieving profitability within their first year.

Looking toward the future, Hikari sees a fundamental shift in how businesses will be built and scaled. “We’re going to see the explosion of single person entrepreneur. We’re going to see single people, companies become unicorns,” he predicts. “Because what these generative models enable and empower is that kind of leverage for brilliant visionaries.”

Omneky aims to be the platform that enables this new wave of entrepreneurship. “If we can be the platform, the product that they utilize to scale their businesses… we would love to arm them and help them connect with their customers faster and help them scale their businesses with our platform.”

The vision extends beyond just advertising to encompass the entire customer journey. As Hikari explains, “We’ll generate the content, we’ll do the media buying. We’ll eventually generate landing pages using the data that the database we have. We’re going to generate all other customer touch points.”

For Hikari, this mission connects back to those early conversations about Moore’s Law and continuous innovation. Just as his grandfather witnessed the transformation of computing, Hikari is helping shape how AI will transform business building and scaling in the decades to come.
