The Story of Sorcero: Building the Command Center for Life Sciences

Every year, pharmaceutical companies spend billions bringing breakthrough treatments to market. But in 2018, Dipanwita Das noticed a critical disconnect: while companies invested heavily in drug development, their ability to understand and act on critical data remained surprisingly manual.

In a recent Category Visionaries episode, Das shared how her background at the intersection of public health and data revealed three fundamental challenges plaguing life sciences. “First, of course, data is everywhere. There’s a lot of it. It’s also spread out and really hard to handle. The data unification challenge is extremely real,” she explains.

The second challenge was even more concerning: “We’re building the same thing over and over again. With every new campaign, with every new group we’re supporting, with every new disease we’re working on, we’d start everything again and build again.” This lack of scalable workflows was holding back the entire industry.

Das saw an opportunity to transform how medical affairs teams operate, but she took an unconventional approach. Instead of rushing to market, Sorcero spent three years testing their solution across multiple verticals. This patience was driven by a deep understanding of their market’s needs.

“Our customers have traditionally bought services and have depended on expert consultants to be able to do their job,” Dipanwita notes. Rather than trying to replace these existing workflows, Sorcero built a platform that enhanced them, making it easier for medical affairs teams to collect, unify, and analyze critical data.

The impact was immediate. After launching their first product in early 2021, Sorcero has achieved 400% year-over-year growth and expanded to a suite of three products. Their platform helps medical affairs teams work 92% faster while gaining strategic insights that were previously impossible to surface manually.

But for Das, success isn’t measured just in growth metrics. “We collect stories, and we have had a few of our investors come and tell us personal stories of how they used Sorcero to craft and to change and advocate for more appropriate treatment for themselves.”

Looking ahead, Sorcero’s vision extends beyond their current success. Das aims to establish Sorcero as “the command center for Life Sciences product commercialization, supporting accelerated adoption of life changing drugs, making sure that patients who need it can access it expediently.”

This mission resonates deeply with the company’s origins at the intersection of public health and technology. “Most important, we hope that we’re sitting on many more stories, maybe hundreds of stories, of how our product, through various levels, really impacted a patient’s life,” Dipanwita shares.

In an industry where new treatments can take over a decade and billions of dollars to develop, Sorcero is proving that sometimes the most impactful innovation isn’t in drug discovery, but in ensuring that breakthrough treatments reach the patients who need them most. By building the infrastructure to make this possible, they’re not just transforming how medical affairs teams work – they’re helping shape the future of healthcare itself.
