Final Offer’s Contrarian Growth Strategy: How Converting Industry Leaders into Investors 10x’d Their Distribution

Most startups see fundraising and distribution as separate challenges. In a recent episode of Category Visionaries, Final Offer co-founder Tim Quirk revealed how merging them created a powerful growth engine in the competitive proptech space.

Learning from Past Success

The seeds of this strategy were planted during the founders’ previous venture. As Tim explains: “In our previous company, we had private equity firms put in tens of millions of dollars into e recruit, and they were great. But we also had half a dozen or so of our clients that invested in the company… what we found is that those individuals, those companies were the best partners we ever had, and they helped us grow.”

The Accidental Discovery

When Final Offer began fundraising, they noticed something unexpected. Tim recalls: “The first three meetings went into real estate agents, each one of them wanted to invest a quarter million dollars into Final Offer. Like, whoa, what is this all about?”

This wasn’t just about capital – these weren’t typical angel investors. They were influential industry leaders whose endorsement carried massive weight in the real estate community.

Turning the Pattern into Strategy

Instead of treating this as a happy accident, Final Offer made it central to their growth strategy. “We’ve actually raised today now, and with the 11 million that we’ve raised in total, we’ve raised 80 real estate agents comprise a lot of that,” Tim shares.

The impact went far beyond the capital raised. These weren’t passive investors – they became active champions of the platform. “These are people that are stalwarts in the industry, that people look up to and respect and have great reputations that are being public and vocal about this is the right way to do business,” Tim explains.

Creating a Virtuous Cycle

The strategy created a powerful flywheel effect. Industry leaders who invested wanted the platform to succeed, so they became vocal advocates. Their endorsement attracted more industry leaders, who then wanted to invest themselves.

Tim illustrates the power of this approach: “When you have tens of thousands of people following the top real estate coach in Canada as an example, hearing that this is the right way to do business, that’s pretty powerful.”

Beyond Investment to Partnership

The strategy evolved beyond just fundraising. As Tim notes: “They aren’t just wanted to come and invest. They’ve also wanted to come and work for us. So a bunch of our leadership team is now from the industry.” This included the second-largest individual real estate agent from Washington DC and a second-generation real estate agent who trains and coaches globally.

The Results

The numbers tell the story:

  • Growth from 93 subscriber agents to over 10,000
  • 50 enterprise brokerage accounts signed
  • Over 12,000 active listings on the platform
  • A built-in network of industry influencers promoting the platform

Key Lessons for Founders

Final Offer’s approach reveals several crucial insights for founders:

  1. Look for investors who can become strategic partners
  2. Convert industry influencers into active champions
  3. Use investment relationships to attract top talent
  4. Build distribution into your fundraising strategy

As Tim concludes: “Being able to have those types of relationships and those types of investors into our platform has been gold because they’re using it, they’re evangelizing it. They believe in the mission. It’s not just a check for us.”

For founders entering regulated industries, this might be the ultimate growth hack: don’t just raise capital, build an army of influential champions who are personally invested in your success.
